On the App Store, even if you're trying to download a free app, Apple requires you to have a payment method on file for your Apple ID. This is mainly for verification purposes and to ensure that you're a legitimate user. I have done all that and it's still asking me for a password when I download an app in the iTunes App Store.

Understanding the Context

I tried turning off the Face ID so I could see the settings and I have it set to allow free downloads. If you enabled Touch ID or Face ID for App Store and iTunes Store purchases, you'll be asked to use Touch ID or Face ID for every download, even if the item is free.
