A customer of mine is frustrated that her yearly subscription for GoToMyPC has jumped up significantly this past year and will not be renewing. Splashtop was recommended as an alternative. Anyone using it or have clients using it for remote computer access?

Understanding the Context

I'm using Splashtop SOS to remote into my residential break fix clients. They are typically old and computer illiterate, and I've found it pretty easy to talk them through the installation. The current price of $220/year for unlimited SOS clients and 10 unattended computers (only for my family/friends) seems reasonable to me, and it paid for itself instantly. I don't do any type of MSP, and ...

Key Insights

I also have a Splashtop SOS account. The problem with it is macOS. Regardless of the Remote app used there are several hoops one has to go through to get full access. Even then it just doesn't work sometime. All my customers MS OS's have Simple Help persistent plus a handful of Apple users on earlier versions.

Final Thoughts

TeamViewer has stated that they will stop performing checks for commercial use of their remote control product in regions heavily affected by the Coronavirus. TeamViewer is a remote control software that is commercial organizations can purchase to offer remote support and for non-commercial, or... SplashTop and Zoho both have pop ups flagging my arrival. I also notice that when doing the initial EU agent setup I can have SplashTop ask for the username/password for the client machine, a custom security code (8-20 characters), or require my specific permission if another authorized user (presumably my employee) wants access. I have SimpleHelp self-hosted and it works great for my one-off's. I like the one-time pay and done (Unless you want to renew for updates, which I also do).

On SyncroMSP, they just switched to Splashtop which has also worked well. Of course, that gets used on our managed clients. I went with Syncro MPS. $139 per month.
